Award winning artwork for Morriston Hospital
Traumatic Brain Injury Service, Morriston Hospital, Swansea - Winner of the Chairman's Award ABMU Health Board 2018 -Category: Improving Lives Through Arts in Health Award: Arts as a Pathway to Hope Project.
Exploring the important role that art and colour can play in health and well being, the brief was to create a friendly and positive environment in which to offer support to patients going through the rehabilitation process as well as to engage patients creatively in the project.
Several workshops were delivered by artists Sarah Jane Richards and Sian Hughes where patients explored the units garden as inspiration to create artwork including making impressions in porcelain clay, printing and book making.
Special scoring was used by the TBIS team to measure the improvements in patients’ mood and well-being as the workshops progressed.
Encompassing the porcelain clay created by the patients the artists created a set of unique trans-illuminated artworks. Hand painted with natural designs, these hand crafted light boxes are used to create a calm ambiance in the communal room in TBIS's occupational health offices.
